Getting Started on Astrid’s “Remind Me” Gmail Integration

We’ve talked to users who once used Google Tasks but stopped because they need additional features like repeating tasks or delegation. Today, we want to share with you something that we’ve been working hard on — the Astrid Gmail integration for Chrome browser. With the Astrid Gmail integration, you can reference your tasks as you email, get all the Astrid features in a familiar interface, and even turn your emails into tasks with one click. Let’s get started!

First, set up your extension

To get started, head over to the Chrome Web Store and install the Astrid Remind Me extension for Chrome. Then log into your Gmail account. Click the Gmail or Mail button right below the Google logo and select Astrid Tasks: You’ll then see a window that pops up along the bottom of your screen, asking you to log into your Astrid account. Go ahead and log in or create a new account.

View your tasks within Gmail

By default, you will be presented with the My Tasks view. Hover over a task to see details like reminder date and lists that a task belongs in. To edit the task details, hover over a task and click on the arrow that appears. Otherwise, you can also select the task first then click again. Click the Back button to return to your list of tasks. To get Google Task style indentation and the ability to drag and drop tasks, simply turn on Manual Order in the sorting menu. Then you can select a task and press tab to indent.

Manage multiple lists at the same time

To view your other lists, click the menu button in the top left hand corner and select your list.  If you want to open the list as a new window, then click the arrow next to the list name. To minimize a window, click on the horizontal bar in the top right corner (or simply click anywhere in the black title bar).

Turn emails into to-dos with one click

Open any email and you’ll see a new button at the top of your screen called Remind Me. Click it and Astrid will automatically create a task with the subject of the email. In the task details, there will also be a link that will take you back to the original email should you need to reference it later.
