We previously shared a workaround for making Astrid work with Siri — today we are proud to announce a full Siri integration. It’s kind of magical: Tell Siri to remind you of something, and Astrid will automatically add a task for you.

Here’s how to enable the Siri and Reminders App integration for Astrid:

Tap the menu button in the top left

Tap Profile

Scroll to the bottom and tap Import Siri & Reminders

Tap Import from Reminders toggle to put it in the “on” position

If you do not want to keep a copy of the tasks in your Reminders app, press Complete on import. Now whenever you add tasks to Reminders app using Siri, they will show up in your Astrid app. If you’re syncing Astrid on multiple devices, these tasks should show up elsewhere too.

If you’ve been making Checklists (formerly called Reusable Checklists) on the iPhone and iPad, you can now share them with the world!

How to publish your Checklist

Select “Checklists” from the main view.

If you don’t have a checklist yet, click the “+” in the top-right, select your list and press Save.

Select the list you’d like to share with the public and press the list description to open up settings.

Scroll down and press the “Make Public” toggle.

It might take us a day or two to approve it, so don’t worry if it doesn’t appear right away in the Public view. If you decide you don’t want it to be public any more, you can remove it instantly from the public view by changing this toggle back to “Off.”

Checklists for every occasion

Some creative uses for Public checklists can be things like recipes, workout routines, class syllabi, “How To” lists, places to visit in your favorite city, and anything else you can imagine!

For Checklists that you’d like to share, but need to remain relatively private, Premium users can collaborate on Checklists directly with individual users. In this way, you can share your best practices methods with your co-workers or share your great-grandmother’s super-secret apple pie recipe (spoiler alert: the mystery ingredient is a dash of vanilla) without worrying about others taking your brilliant ideas!

<del>Try Astrid Premium for one month for $0.99 for a limited time – 80% savings if you sign up on iPhone in the next 36 hours (by Friday evening – midnight PST)!

People all over the world are using Astrid, but we know that Astrid doesn’t speak everyone’s language fluently. This is where you come in!

We recently migrated to a new platform that we hope can make translating Astrid easier. If you’d like to help translate Astrid into a language you speak, follow along.

Create your translation account

Visit Astrid’s new translation page to create an account: Astrid on Get Localization.

Once you’re logged in, select the language you want to translate on the home page.

Translating specific phrases

If you find specific strings in your version of Astrid that are not translated, you can search for it in the top left side of your screen.

At the bottom of your screen, enter your translation for the phrase. Click Save & Go to Next when you’re done. Notice that the screen will refresh and bring you to the next item, so don’t panic if it looks like your translation disappeared. Just go to the left side of the screen and select the correct phrase.

Sort by untranslated phrases

If you want to just work on the untranslated phrases in a language, you can use the top left menu and select Untranslated strings. Once in there, you can crank through the phrases one by one. You can also sort phrases by All, Quality, Untranslated, or Translated.

If you updated Astrid yesterday and updated to iOS 6 Astrid may crash on you. We submitted an update to Apple App Review, and it should be updated shortly. Trust us, we’ll notify the world when it goes through.

Until then, this should help:

Change your restrictions for Contacts: Settings → General → Privacy → Contacts → Astrid → ”On”

Or use astrid.com on your phone through Safari

Here is what’s going on:

iOS 6 has a great feature that allows you to restrict apps from accessing your contacts. Cool, right?

Astrid makes it easy to for you to share tasks with your contacts. Cool, right?

But Astrid didn’t know how to deal with being denied access to contacts and crashed as a result. Not cool – we know.

We are deeply sorry we screwed up and have done our best to get the fix out to you soon.

Humbly,

No matter what I try, sync with Astrid.com doesn’t seem to work. What can I do?

On Android, this might occur due to a bad login token (something went wrong when signing in on the device).
This can usually be corrected by simply logging out, then logging back in:
Accounts & Settings -> Sync & Backup -> Astrid.com -> Log Out
Then select “Synchronize Now” to log back in.
This process should fix most sync issues on the Android.

On iPhone, this might occur due to a mistyped email address.
Check the email that’s currently logged in on the phone by pressing “Profile”. Here it will say “Account: email@email.com”.
Compare this with the email you use to log in to Astrid.com.
This can be found by checking the top-right of the screen when you’re logged in.

If these are the same and you’re still having trouble, you can try to go the Android route by logging out and back in.
Since logging out clears tasks on your phone, you’ll only want to do this if most (if not all) of your tasks exist on the web and you’re just having trouble syncing either between devices or to the phone from the web.

I update the due time on my phone, but the time shows up an hour later/earlier on the web.
What’s up?

Time zones are a tricky thing.
Where Astrid is concerned, there are three locations in which time zone settings might be playing tricks with your tasks.

Computer settings – make sure the time zone is set correctly and that you have daylight savings active where applicable.

Astrid.com settings – click your name in the top-right, select “Settings”, then select “Preferences” on the left.

Phone settings – Date and time (usually best to have this set automatically).

In some cases, the phone (Android) may show the time off by an hour due to Daylight Savings.
Example: phone may be set to GMT-07:00, but the computer and Astrid.com will show GMT-08:00.

Take a look and make sure all three of these are set appropriately (keeping in mind the phone may be different due to daylight savings).

We’re excited to announce Astrid 2.0 for iOS, which includes some really exciting things we’ve been working on and testing internally!

iPad app

Ours users have been asking for an iPad app. But we didn’t want to just deliver a blown up version of our iPhone app. We designed the iPad app from the ground up and to make Astrid a great experience for the iPad.

Users who also manage their lists on Astrid.com will find the look and feel of the iPad app familiar.

Gestures

One of the delightful things about the iOS experience is the smooth, responsive gestures. We’ve also made gestures a bigger part of the Astrid iOS experience.

Swipe right on a task: postpone by a week

Swipe left on a task: delete task

Shake: return to home screen

Swipe from bottom edge: open add task bar

Swipe down on an active add task bar: dismisses task bar

In the task edit view:

Swipe left on Who picker: make task unassigned

Swipe right on Who picker: assign task to self

Swipe left on When picker: remove date

Swipe right on When picker: quick date picker

Swipe left on Lists picker: remove list

iPhone only:

Swipe from left edge: open navigation menu

Premium

With Astrid 2.0, we are also officially rolling out our Premium program designed to help our power users be more productive.

File storage – files at your finger tips: Premium users can to attach files from their iOS devices or from the web app at Astrid.com with drag-and-drop uploading. Anyone — Premium or not — who’s shared on the task or list can view the files that a Premium user uploads.

Voice recording – never forget a thought: Attach voice notes to tasks so you can capture thoughts for yourself, your family, or your teammates.

Automatic voice backup: We know speech-to-text is not perfect, and it’s especially annoying when creating tasks on the go. With Premium, the Astrid app will automatically save a recording of your voice and attach it to the task whenever you use voice dictation in the app. Anyone who’s shared on the task can also listen to the voice recording.

Professional dashboard: The premium dashboard includes interactive charts, custom filters and the ability to edit groups of tasks simultaneously. Charts also allow you to track progress on your personal or team projects. You can filter by priority (!!!, !!, !, o), by person or by lists tasks are on. To edit multiple tasks at the same time use the control or shift key to select the tasks you want to change, then make the changes you want to apply to all of them. The Astrid team loves using the professional dashboard to manage our team tasks and we think you’ll love it too!

Web themes – something for everyone: Our engineers love working on a dark screen. If you’re the same way, you’ll love the “true black” available for Premium users.
