UI Cheat Sheet Astrid 3.9.2

Hey! What happened to…
You may have noticed that we’ve been changing things around pretty regularly. Here’s a quick recap:
Repeating Tasks
To simplify things this feature has been moved to the timepicker window. Tap “When” in the Task Edit Window, then tap on the cycle icon in the top left of the screen
Sort & Hidden
Now this feature has it’s own button. Woot! Tap on the icon in the top right of any task list screen.
Show Task…
AKA  “hide until…” is now in the Reminders area of the Task Edit Window.
Custom Filters
From Lists View tap on the menu button, then select “new filter”

I really hate the removal of “Show task”/”Hide until” into the Reminders screen. Especially when there’s a worthless empty line between the calendar and the button on the When screen.

I can see why “Show task” is a confusing wording (particularly defaulting to “Always”; doesn’t make it clear that it’s a date, it sounds more like conditions). I thought “Hide until” was pretty clear (with default being “Don’t hide”). Maybe even “Start date”. But renaming it to make it confusing, then hiding it because it was confusing new users seems like a lousy thing to do to a handy feature.

Isn’t amazing how what’s confusing for one person, can make perfect sense to another? We’re continually trying to make the app easy for new users to understand while keeping our legacy users happy too, so your feedback is really valuable. If you prefer the previous UI you can move back by downloading from weloveastrid.com/old

Did anyone else have a bunch of tasks suddenly resurrected with the latest update? I’ve had a bunch of tasks that had previously been completed reappear!

In the previous version, I created a custom list to show only those tasks that were due or overdue. I then used that list for my widget. If I wanted to see future tasks, I selected the active tasks list. I can’t find that functionality in 3.9, and I am trying to rebuild everything after having to do a factory reset today. I see how to show/hide an individual task when I create it based on due date, but how can I create a new list that will filter all active tasks and only show those due/overdue?

    Thanks in advance!

The checkboxes for selecting day of the week for repeating tasks is missing on my Galaxy Tab 10.1. Any workaround or ETA for fixing this?

@Harry from Lists View, tap the menu button then select “new filter”. I’ll add this to the post

@susan, it might be an issue with the update not going smoothly on your handset. try uninstalling/reinstalling the app (you can restore your tasks from a backup or the web if you sync with astrid.com). you can also move back to the previous version by downloading from weloveastrid.com/old

@malika, this was actually a new install, rather than an update. I’m a new customer. I also installed it on my HTC Incredible phone, and the checkboxes are there so it seems to be a problem just on the tablet. Have you heard about this problem before?

@malika, I just reinstalled the app with the same result. Pls have someone check the app on a Galaxy Tab 10.1 – that must be the issue. I even tried clicking where the checkboxes should be, but no help.

I have a galaxy tab 7 and honestly have been very frustrated with these new updates. For some reason EVERY single task, from now until May, has shown up has a notification to be cleared, as if they are due that day. So confusing. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. I will try the beta 4.0 to see if that helps.

Why are some of my lists Grey and some Black?

    (a) I don’t like the new position of the ‘hide until’ being on the reminders screen. Too far away from the main edit screen for comfort.

    (b) The New Task Defaults – Default Hide Until – Task is due has NEVER worked on my HTC Wildfire. If it did my point (a) would largely become irrelevant.

Apart from these gripes, many thanks to the developers for such a useful tool.
